In this project, we sought to assess the effects of microbiomes derived from vermicompost on tomato productivity and physiology. We cultivated tomatoes in a greenhouse with three distinct microbial inoculants: one created from vermicompost (V), one created from heat treated vermicompost (HT), and one created from sterilized luria broth (LB). We then sequenced the rhizosphere microbiome to compare community composition between inoculant treatments, performed plant phenotyping to compare productivity between treatments, and performed transcriptomics on foliar and fruit tissue to assess the effects of microbial treatments on tomato hosts at the molecular level.
