Euromanifestos Project (EMP) 1979 - 2004

Manifestos issued ahead of the European elections from 1979 to 2004. The data contain coded versions of the party programs. Topics: Country in which the party ran in EP elections; first year of membership of a country in the EC/EU; Euromanifesto is a national one or adopted from the Euro-party; party family and the parliamentary group a party belongs to; share of votes in EP election and party’s number of seats; country’s number of seats; type of Euromanifesto; placement of Euromanifesto according to the coder on a left-right scale, on a libertarian-authoritarian scale, on a religious-secular scale, on a state interventionism vs. free enterprise scale, on a multiculturalism vs. ethnocentrism scale, and on a pro-anti-EU-integration scale. Computed indices: Percentages of content Codes separately on each political level; summarised percentages of pro-EU issues and anti-EU issues; left-right position of party (EMCS version) and as given by Klingemann/Volkens as well as by Michael Laver/Ian Budge; position in planned economy, market economy and welfare; position in topics like labour migration, single market, monetary union, and creating jobs; differences between freedom and human rights issues and democracy, traditional and libertarian issue, pro and anti social spending issue, pro and anti military interventionism; foreign special relationship to Russia.
