Fluoride has long been recognized as an environmental pollutant with well-known toxic effects that induce depression-like behavior. Given selenium's established roles in modulating intestinal microecology, attenuating inflammation, and exerting antioxidant effects during the pathogenesis of neurological diseases, selenium supplementation is a therapeutic strategy with promising potential for alleviating fluoride-induced depression-like behavior. Particularly, gut microbiota serve as a pivotal factor in regulating depression.
