Patients included in this study were at least 18 years of age, had a history of AF without SHD, no significant coronary artery disease (<50% coronary artery stenosis if cardiac catheterization was performed, or a normal stress test); and normal left ventricular function (LVEF ≥50%). Patients were excluded if they had structural heart disease or congenital heart disease (except for an isolated patent foramen ovale with normal right heart chambers); significant valvular disease (>2+ regurgitation or any valve stenosis); coronary artery stenosis >50%, or prior percutaneous coronary intervention or coronary artery bypass grafting.
