Ecosystem-scale energy, water, and carbon dioxide fluxes, Daring Lake, Northwest Territories

Subarctic and arctic ecosystems store vast amounts of carbon (C) within soils that are frozen and/or saturated for the majority of the year, however, the response of C cycling in these environments to current and future climate change, vegetation dynamics, and other disturbances is uncertain. Changes in the tundra C cycles as well as energy budgets may exert either positive or negative feedbacks on climate change. This long-term study aims to improve our understanding of the temporal and spatial factors that influence tundra-atmosphere interactions.
