Balclutha neglecta is a leafhopper species that is commonly found across North America. Many leafhoppers are vectors of several plant pathogens. The pathogens they spread can cause disease to plants, and cause immense agricultural damage. Balcultha neglecta is not a vector itself, but was chosen because it is a close relative of a vector, and was locally available. In our work we investigated the genome Size of Balcutha neglecta. The size of the genome will be used in further research to estimate the coverage needed for sequencing.
