Gut microbiota changes associated with the long-term administration of proton pump inhibitors to old rats

This study demonstrated microbial alterations following long-term use of PPI in old rats. Metagenome analysis was performed on microbiota from ileum contents of 74-week old and 2-year old rats fed with chow or PPI-supplemented diets. Experiments were conducted in four groups according to age and diet (n = 7, in each group): 74-week-old chow-fed, 74-week-old PPI-fed, 2-year-old chow-fed and 2-year-old PPI-fed groups.
