Macrophages Maintain Epithelium Integrity by Limiting Fungal Product Absorption

We report presence of Macrophage population in distal colon, which is transcriptomically different and are specialized in the sampling of fluids absorbed by the epithelium. This population limits epithelial absorption of fungal metabolites thus protecting epithelial barrier from their cytotoxicity. Examination of transcriptomic profiles of Macrophages isolated from proximal and distal colon of mice.
