Surveying BioNLP Shared Tasks Corpora for Named Entity Recognition

Named-entity recognition (NER) (also known as (named) entity identification, entity chunking, and entity extraction) is a subtask of information extraction that seeks to locate and classify named entities mentioned in unstructured text into pre-defined categories. These categories vary by the domain. In the Biomedical domain, they pertain to genes, bacteria, drugs etc. This comparison surveys the BioNLP Shared Task series (2009, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2019) for their organized NER subtasks.
