The data in this dataset are compiled from the literature. These data are used to constrain the evolution of crustal thickness, crustal density and lithospheric geotherm of the Gangdese arc in southern Tibetan Plateau. Based on these results, we propose that lower crustal foundering drove the uplift of the Gangdese arc during the Paleocene, independent of the India-Asia collision. Data S1. The major oxide and trace element compositions of the Late Cretaceous-Cenozoic magmatic rocks from the Gangdese arc. Data S2. The metamorphic conditions and ages of rocks from the middle and lower crust of the Gangdese arc. Data S3. Mafic rocks from the Gangdese arc and the melting temperature and pressure of their mantle source. Data S4. The elevation data obtained by paleoaltimetry in the Linzhou and Namling basins.
