To verify the role of the Galleria mellonella larval gut microbiota in polystyrene digestion, 120 fourth instar larvae were evenly divided into two groups. One group was fed beeswax (control group), and the other was fed polystyrene microplastics. After 10 days of feeding, 10 larvae were randomly selected from each group and dissected under sterile conditions to obtain gut samples. The gut contents of the 10 larvae from each group were pooled into a single sample, and three biological replicates were performed for each group to conduct microbial community analysis
