CONUS standing timber value, 30 m (2020 USD, TreeMap 2022) v6.0 - ecoregion-continuous pricing, corrected uncertainty, with forecast

A spatially explicit estimate of standing merchantable timber value for the 48 conterminous United States at 30 m resolution (EPSG:5070, 2020 USD), anchored on FIA TreeMap 2022. Each pixel is the per-acre value of standing saw and pulp volume, split by private versus federal ownership, priced from a harmonized multi-source stumpage compilation. This is a new version of record 10.5281/zenodo.20515241 and supersedes the prior state-priced surface. What changed in version 6.0: Ecoregion-continuous pricing at EPA Level III ecoregion scale (forest-area-weighted blend of the state prices each ecoregion spans), producing a value surface continuous across state boundaries; the prior state-anchored surface remains in the record version history. Distance-to-mill gradient (about -2.5% per 33 km from the nearest mill), normalized within state. Corrected uncertainty layer provided as both a unitless coefficient of variation and a dollar standard deviation, combining price-source, TreeMap volume, and species-multiplier uncertainty in quadrature, capped at 0.55. Real-price update and cleaned price model: Indiana private sawtimber corrected to 72.0 USD/m3; model refit dropping a corrupt season factor and a singular region term. Region trends per decade: Pacific Northwest +11.5, North Central -12.6, South Central -10.9, South East -5.9, North East +1.0 percent. Files: 48 state value COGs, 48 coefficient-of-variation COGs, 48 standard-deviation COGs, price inputs and cleaned region trends, a per-state zonal summary, a national overlay PNG, and a README. Headline: national total standing merchantable value is approximately $623 billion (2020 USD; $623.2B) over ~537 million acres of timberland. Provenance and constraints: volumes from FIA TreeMap 2022; prices from public state-agency, USFS Cut-and-Sold, and a harmonized compilation. TimberMart-South raw subscription records are not redistributed.
