Hypermucoviscous Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from human blood samples

The purpose of this study was to analyse the clinical and molecular epidemiology of hypermucoviscous K. pneumoniae bacteraemia isolates obtained over a 10-year period (2007-2016). String test was performed to select the hypermucoviscous strains. Isolates were typed by PFGE/MLST and magA/rmpA PCR. Three selected isolates were typed by WGS. Main conclusion of the study was that the string test is not enough to recognize the hypermucoviscous phenotype, requiring additional molecular studies.
