资源简介:
This dataset contains images and editorial content for the book, Making space: artist-run initiatives in Victoria which documents 20 years of artist-run activity in Victoria and lists 6,500 artists. The book accompanied an event of the same name which was held from April to June 2007 and received Australian Government funding through the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy (VACS) administered by West Space Incorporated. During this time each independent artist hosted or mounted a project for a festival designed to celebrate the diversity of this network with exhibitions, forums, performances and workshops. The hardcover 272 page book contains 21 edited histories of independent art organisations, essays by Suzie Attiwill, Terri Bird, Richard Holt, Brett Jones, Tessa Dwyer and Daniel Palmer, as well as interviews with now defunct Australian artist run initiatives. It was designed by Brad Haylock, Monash University and edited by Din Heagney (Platform Artists Group Inc.). Versions of editorial content for the book are available through negotiated access. This includes early versions of layouts, design development files, an invitation letter to artists, planning minutes, publicity images and print quotations. Other members of the editorial team included Brett Jones, founder of Victorian Initiatives of Artists Network (VIA-N), Emma McRae (Seventh Gallery), Claire Mooney (Bus Projects) and Sophie Knezic (Kings Artist Run Initiative). Individual artists own the copyright for the images and West Space holds a folio which gives evidence of the scope and impact of the project: press clippings, reviews from popular media, copies of print advertisements, a “Making Space” programme and press editorials.
