Oral supplementation with butyrate improves myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury via a gut-brain neural circuit

This study showed that butyrate exerts a protective effect on myocardial I/R injury, as evidenced by reductions in the infarct size, oxidative stress, cell apoptosis, and inflammation. The RNA-Seq results showed that the butyrate-induced protective changes in gene expression were partly reversed by vagotomy.
