Acoustic bird diversity and community composition in relation to urban greenness in Munich, Germany

This dataset contains acoustic bird monitoring data collected from 86 sites across Munich, Germany, during spring and summer 2023. The data were used to investigate the relationship between urban greenness (measured as NDVI and vegetation volume) and bird diversity and community composition. The dataset comprises two CSV files: diversity_green.csv: Contains site-level data including bird diversity metrics (species richness, Shannon diversity index, vocal activity rate), recording effort (hours recorded, week of recording), geographic coordinates, and environmental variables (NDVI and vegetation volume at multiple buffer sizes from 25m to 800m, and distance to city centre). community_matrix.csv: A presence-absence matrix of 86 bird species detected across 86 monitoring sites. Rows represent sites (coded as GR_1 to GR_99) and columns represent bird species (identified by scientific names). Bird detections were obtained using passive acoustic monitoring with Frontier Labs Bioacoustic Recorders deployed for one week at each site, recording continuously at 48 kHz. Recordings were analysed using BirdNET-Analyzer (v2.4) with a minimum confidence threshold of 0.8. Singletons were removed, and rare species detections were manually validated.
