ICONICITY BETWEEN SOUND AND MEANING IN RUSSIAN, ENGLISH AND UZBEKISTAN: A PHONO-SEMANTIC AND COGNITIVE APPROACH

The article examines the phenomenon of iconicity between sound and meaning in Russian, English, and Uzbek within phonosemantic and cognitive frameworks. The study explores onomatopoetic lexemes and mechanisms of sound symbolism, focusing on the transition from perceptual experience to mental representation and conceptualization. Based on data from the three languages, the semantic functions of plosive and fricative consonants, reduplication patterns, and processes of grammaticalization are analyzed. The degree of motivation between phonetic form and semantic content is identified, highlighting both universal tendencies and typological differences. The findings demonstrate that iconicity is not arbitrary but constitutes a cognitively grounded and systematic component of linguistic structure.
