To understand transmission patterns and differences in infection prevalence in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh, residents were enrolled into a cross sectional survey and blood samples were screened for any Plasmodium spp. infection using qPCR. Genotyping by size-polymorphic markers and amplicon deep-sequencing was applied to assess relationships among infections within and between ethnic groups. To understand transmission patterns in Ethiopia, malaria patients were enrolled at health centers throughout the country. Dried blood spots were screened for P. falciparum infection using PCR. Genotyping by size-polymorphic markers and amplicon deep-sequencing was applied to assess relationships among infections within and between sites. Sample IDs beginning with GPAT_ were used for the study in Bangladesh. Sample IDs beginning with E_ were used for the study in Ethiopia.
