Understanding the extreme soft X-ray excess in RE 1034+396

We propose a 90ks XMMNewton observation of the Narrow Line Seyfert 1 galaxy RE1034+396. This has the strongest soft Xray excess ever seen in an active galaxy(AGN). It also has extremely low absorption in the lineofsight, so hasexcellent FUSE/EUVE/HST data to delineate the lower energy extent of the softXray excess and especially how this connects onto the accretion disc emission.RE1034+396 thus represents the extreme of the NLS1 population, and the best hopefor constraining the nature of the soft excess. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
