Near Infra Red Spectrum of Herbarium sample from Senegal

This dataset contains Near infra-red spectrums of herbarium samples. We used the same NIRS spectrometer, a LabSpecPro (Analytical Spectral Devices Inc., Boulder, Colorado, USA). The wavelength range was from 350 nm to 2500 nm, with a resolution of 1 nm. The probe used for reflectance measurements had a diameter of 4 mm. Each recorded spectrum was the average of 30 repeated measurements. The herbarium collection used for this work was established in 2017. It was based on two different experiments in natural savannah in Northern Senegal. In this area, the savannah is composed of two different layers of vegetation: annual herbaceous species mostly grasses and perennial woody species. Samples were collected in enclosed plots not impacted by grazing The collection used contained 308 samples 958 samples of 31 species, mounted on Canson paper. A majority of the samples contained stem and leaves and few samples also presented reproductive organs at various phenological stages (flower and fruits). We repeated several measurements on the samples. We performed different series of measurements per type of organ: leaves, stems and reproductive organs when they were available (flowers or fruits). We used 20 measurement points per sample and per organ. Moreover, for each organ, we took measurements from the bottom to the top of the plant, in order to cover within-sample diversity and obtain a gradient of organ development. The Data are on Excel File with three sheets. The main sheet contains 2153 columns. The first column is a species code (Xspe) the list of species is on separate sheet, the second column is the organ (F: reproductive flower and fruit, L: leaves; S Steam) and the third one is a code for the sample code (most of the herbarium collection are available in the CIRAD Montpellier), The last 2150 columns are the reflectance’s in the wavelengths from 350-2500nm with one column per nm.
