16S Sequencing of sorted mouse fecal bacterial cells during dextran sodium sulfate colitis

16S amplicon sequencing of the V4-5 region was conducted on bacterial cells isolated from mouse fecal samples which underwent ex vivo incubation with a thymidine analogue to label replicating cells. Labelled and unlablled cells were sorted using fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) to separate these two populations. The whole community of bacteria, including both labelled and unlabelled fractions, was also sorted using FACS. Fecal samples were collected before, during, and after mice were administered 2% dextran sodium sulfate for 5 days.
