Racial microbiome diversity of colorectal cancer in African American, European American, and Egyptian patients

The current study aims to establish a microbiome profile for Egyptian CRC patients and compare it to microbiome profiles of African American and European CRC patients to identify the differentially abundant microbiotas that can be further studied to link it with different clinical behaviors. Thus, we conducted a comparative racial analysis of differential microbiome abundance in CRC patients from three ethnic/racial groups. Pathology-confirmed CRC and corresponding normal biopsies from patients of age and stage-matched African American, European American, Egyptian, and Kenyan (do not have corresponding normal biopsies). DNA was isolated from frozen tissues, and the microbiome composition was analyzed by 16s rRNA sequencing.
