A complementary patent dataset based on patent assignment records

We used publicly available patent assignment and grant data from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in 2023 as our data source. We extracts and analyzes market transaction information from patent assignment records to design indicators to identify complementary patents and to construct a more comprehensive complementary patent dataset. The research results indicate that the method proposed in this paper can identify complementary patents across a wider range of technical fields and better reflect commercial value in actual patent transactions, compared to traditional methods. This dataset can be used for research such as recommending patent partners and analyzing patent pools.
