CARRIAGE RATE OF UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT PATHOBIONTS AND THEIR ASSOCIATION WITH HOST METABOLOMICS PROFILES AND GUT MICROBIAL COMPOSITION IN DIABETIC PATIENTS

Diabetes is one of the major priorities of Ministry of Health, Malaysia. The government had put in place policies to ensure diabetes care is available in both private and public hospital. In addition, community based health promotion was also established to increase the public awareness and to reduce the prevalence of the disease. This study seeks to compliment the government policy by providing insight into the gut microbial and Metabolome that lead to disease manifestation. In addition, the study is expected to shed light on the long-term risk and co-morbidities of diabetes with infectious diseases. Together, the study will be able to inform better disease prevention and substantially reduce the burden of infectious disease for diabetic patients.
