Interactions between phytoplankton and bacteria are instrumental for the recycling of nutrients within the microbial loop. The nature of these interaction are becoming more known, but we still do not know in detail how these interactions are impacted by abiotic factors such as light and temperature. In this study taking place in the northern hemisphere, we look at the green algal community within an outdoor algal reactor, and the associated bacterial community. The productivity of the green algae in the reactor are impacted by the ambient temperature and light. The reactor was monitored for 6 weeks, during September and October, with large differences in light and temperature. Samples for 16S and 18S rRNA, for amplicon sequencing, and mRNA, for metatranscriptomics, were taken biweekly, for 4 out of the 6 weeks.
