In a little over three years, Amazon’s Alexa has gone from being compatible with 1200 brands to around 9,500 brands as of July 2020. As such, it is no surprise as to why the largest share of American companies reported to be developing voice-enable technology for Amazon Alexa. With an ever-expanding catalogue of skills, Amazon’s Alexa is mostly used by consumers to answer questions or check the weather/news. Virtual assistants Virtual assistants have become a key component of the smart device industry, being absolutely integral to the way that consumers interact with their devices. As the name implies, this type of software serves as an assistant for its users by responding to commands, providing information, or controlling other smart devices .
