Traditional and local knowledge on muskox health in the Ikaluktutiak area (Victoria Island, Nunavut) (NGMP ID EC07)

As part of a broader study focused on the development of a participatory muskox health surveillance system in the community of Ikaluktutiak, on Victoria island, Nunavut (Canada), we gathered Inuit and local knowledge to understand the health, including status and trends, of local muskoxen. This research originated important knowledge also regarding the health status of the Dolphin and Union caribou in the study area. The ultimate purpose is to develop a solid framework for the inclusion of Inuit and local knowledge in wildlife health surveillance and monitoring in a co-management fashion.
