miRNA array of clear cell renal cell carcinoma from patients treated with sunitinib

A multiple receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor, sunitinib, is a first-line therapy for clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC). Unfortunately, it has the major challenges of low initial response rate and resistance after about one year of treatment. Here we evaluated a microRNA (miRNA) and its target responsible for sunitinib resistance. Using miRNA profiling, we identified miR-96-5p upregulation in tumors from sunitinib-resistant CCRCC patients We performed global miRNA profiling using frozen tissues from CCRCC tumors and adjacent noncancerous kidney tissues of six patients who received sunitinib treatment. The mean progression-free survival (PFS) and OS of the resistant group were 4.7 ± 3.1 and 7.3 ± 5.5 months, respectively. The corresponding values in the sensitive group were 41.3 ± 9.3 and 83.3 ± 18.2 months, respectively.
