Datasets for comparing the health burden associated with wildfire and prescribed fire smoke in the past (2008-2016) to the future burden estimated under a projected prescribed fire management scenario in California

Required data to prepare and execute analysis of the data included in this published study. This includes (1) mapping daily mean exposure of total ambient, WF, RX, and fRx PM2.5; (2) calculating annual person-days of exposure; (3) calculating and mapping the distribution of annual person-days of exposure; (4) calculating the distribution of annual PM2.5-attributed cardiopulmonary emergency department (ED) visits by smoke PM2.5 strata; (5) calculating and plotting the estimated daily and annual average wildfire (WF) and prescribed fire (Rx) PM2.5 -attributed burden rates of respiratory and cardiovascular emergency department (ED) visits smoke PM2.5 strata; (6) estimating historical and future projected cumulative annual PM2.5-attributed respiratory and cardiovascular burden rates on RX smoke days by ZIP code, and map areas with highest burden increase. Raw health data is not provided due to confidentiality of personal health information used for research. Aggregated estimates of PM2.5-attributed ED visit counts and rates per 100,000 are provided by strata of smoke PM2.5.
