Cronobacter is a recently described genus within the Enterobacteriaceae family. Members of the Cronobacter have been associated with neonatal infections. Cronobacter colletis was previously identified as Cronobacter zurichensis based on phenotypic tests. A taxonomic review of Cronobacter zurichensis 1383 based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing, multiple sequence analysis (MLSA) of 7 housekeeping genes (atpD, fusA, glnS, gltB, gyrB, infB, ppsA; 3036bp), ribosomal MLSA (51 loci) and ANI confirmed that this strain represented a novel species within the genus Cronobacter.
