Information or Attention? Media Technologies and Demand for Live Peking Opera in China

Replication package for "Information or Attention? Media Technologies and Demand for Live Peking Opera in China" (Wang, Yu and Liu; Information Economics and Policy). The dataset is a balanced panel of China's 31 mainland provincial-level jurisdictions for 2005-2017 (403 province-years) that combines live Peking Opera statistics (audience visits, performances, professional troupes, performance revenue, government appropriations) with radio and television population coverage rates, Internet users, broadband access ports, radio and television program counts, resident population, GDP and a provincial price index. Raw yearbook levels are provided together with the exact log regressors used in the article, flags for the four documented extrapolations/corrections, and the original values before correction. The Stata code (01_reproduce_tables.do) reproduces Table 2, Tables 3-7, Appendix Tables A1-A3 and the quantities quoted in the text and footnotes (fixed effects with Driscoll-Kraay, province-clustered and wild-cluster-bootstrap inference), and the Python script reproduces Figure 1.
