The Attitude of the Adyghes to the Traditional Values of Ethnic Culture in Everyday Life: Preliminary Report of the Pilot Study

Subject of study: the attitude of the Circassians to the traditional values of folk culture in everyday life. The purpose of the study: to objectify the attitude of the Circassians to the traditional values of folk culture in everyday life as an element of modernity measured by a numerical indicator. Research objectives at the current stage: 1) test the developed questionnaire on a part of the target audience (Adygs of the South of Russia and the North Caucasus): determine the strengths and weaknesses of the development, improve the questionnaire; 2) analyze the collected data: offer a complex numerical indicator (indicator) of the attitude of the Adygs to the traditional values of folk culture in everyday life, establish a correlation between the complex and individual indicators of differentiated groups of respondents. The methodology is formed on the basis of an authorized set of methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis: The survey was conducted in two ways: 1) oral questioning, during which the agent interviewed the respondent by filling out an electronic Google Forms questionnaire; 2) network distribution of the survey form from the agent to the respondent and further to the respondent's inner circle by transmitting a link to the Google Forms survey form using the WhatsApp and Telegram messengers (in both cases, the principle of confidentiality of personal data was observed); data processing was carried out using standard analytical tools Google Forms and MS Excel, as well as using G. V. Bakumenko’s own algorithm “Indicator of Relationship with Cultural Values in Everyday Life”. In total, in the period from August 16, 2023 to August 28, 2023, 151 respondents took part in the pilot survey: residents of the village of Enem, Takhtamukay district (Republic of Adygea, Russia) and students of individual institutions of higher education in the South of Russia and the North Caucasus (Adyghe State University in Maikop, Kuban State University in Krasnodar, North Caucasian Federal University in Stavropol, North Caucasian State Institute of Arts, Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after Kh.M. Berbekov and Kabardino-Balkarian State Agrarian University named after. V.M. Kokov in Nalchik).
