Trees from temperate/boreal zone usually undergo dormancy to overcome harsh winter conditions. In contrast, most tropical/sub-tropical trees are broad-leaf evergreens that undergo continuous cycles of growth in a year due to the favorable temperature. To assess the potential molecular mechanism contributing to different overwinter habits, we compared the seasonal transcriptome of E. dunnii with the available seasonal transcriptomic data of hybrid poplar in our laboratory. The poplar shoot apices were sampled every month from September 2018 to May 2019 (without the sample in November due to weather) under field conditions, covering the transformation process between dormancy and growth period.
