Trained innate immunity has been shown for human macrophages, i.e. a primary stimulation with specific compounds such as Beta-glucans, BCG vaccine or oxidized LDL generates an innate memory capacity that leads to an amplified pro-inflammatory reaction to various microbial components when restimulated days later. In this study, phorbol ester differentiated THP-1 cells were used as a model for human macrophages. The aim of this experiment was to map the biological processes involved in DCATH-2 peptide trained THP-1 cells versus control cells without restimulation and after restimulation with lipopolysaccharides.
