资源简介:
Geelong Gala was constituted in 1921. According to its constitution, the object of holding a Gala Day in Geelong was to raise moneys for the benefit of such public, philanthropic, and charitable or other objects in and around Geelong of an undenominational character, as the directors of the board shall annually determine. A board was to be appointed, to be elected annually. The board could appoint sub-committees as it deemed necessary. The board was to present to the annual public meeting in November the annual report and a statement of receipts and expenditure, and at the same time receive recommendations for the future carrying on of the Gala Day Board. The allocation of proceeds from Gala Day 1921 was recorded with the Kitchener Memorial Hospital to receive 50%. In time, the Gala was to be associated exclusively with fund raising for the Geelong and District Hospital (Kitchener Memorial). Correspondence was recorded on the Hospital's letterhead. This record series comprises Gala Board Minutes for the period 1936-1965. It includes also correspondence, programs, advertisements and press reports for the period 1935-1939.(Earlier Gala Days were conducted in Geelong associated with the General War Fund, circa 1916-1917).
