Towards peptide oral bioavailability – Design and synthesis of active, membrane permeable and stable peptides

Peptides have the potential to be safe and effective medicines. However, they are limited in oral delivery as they are poorly absorbed in the stomach and break down in the body. Therefore, peptides are typically delivered through injections, which can be uncomfortable and inconvenient to the patient. This thesis explores new ways to design and chemically synthesise peptides so they can be taken orally, helping improve how orally bioavailable peptides are are discovered and developed.
