Insecticidal Properties of Medicinal Plants in the Coastal Strands of Moorea, French Polynesia

The data shows results of the bioassay performed on <i>Drosophila melanogaster</i> larvae. Each replicate plate was treated with plant extracts, water (negative control), or insecticide (positive control). The plant species included in the study are <i>Terminalia catappa</i>, <i>Hibiscus tilliaceus</i>, <i>Thespesia populnea</i>, <i>Barringtonia asiatica</i>, and <i>Fagraea berteriana</i>. The data set shows the pupae/death count at each interval (hour six, twenty-four, forty-eight, seventy-two). The larvae were categorized into one of the five states: moving, pupal, pre-pupal, stationary, or dead. Moving larva indicates that the larva was still alive. Individuals marked as stationary eventually progressed to one of two outcomes by the seventy-second hour: the pre-pupal/pupal stage or the death stage. Pre-pupal stage indicates that the larva was in transition to pupation. Pupal stage indicates that the larva had pupated. Dead individuals showed yeast growth and evidence of decomposition.
