Testing eggs with uncertain data integrity:\nThe aim of this study is to validate or refute the authenticity of rare or unusual species records that have eggshells as the basis of the record. To achieve this goal, we also generated the high-quality mitochondrial reference genomes for avian species that did not already have a representative in NCBI. A total of 5 egg clutches were tested and a total of 20 high quality mitochondrial reference genomes were generated. This was a pilot study to evaluate the feasibility of conducting future externally funded eggshell genomics projects. \n
