A global overview of the pests and diseases known to be associated with NNTs in different global regions. Data sourced from EPPO Global database. This dataset was compiled to support risk analysis questions of the research project ETPP-31 Assessment of Global Risk Analysis for Novel Tree Species, commissioned by the UK's Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra). The globally associated pests and pathogens of non-naive tree species may influence the risk of planting these species at scale in the UK in two ways: 1) a heightened risk of introducing the associated pests through trade and planting pathways, and 2) a heightened risk of amplifying the impacts of endemic pests and pathogens on other susceptible host plant species. When considering the probability of Impact, assessors are asked to consider these aspects within the novel (non-native) tree species risk analysis: 2.17. Transmission of disease ­Whereby the alien taxon transmits diseases (alien or native) to native taxa, leading to deleterious impacts on native taxa Please consider ranking as higher potential impact those introduced species that are known hosts for highly polyphagous pest or pathogen species that could impact a wide range of native and crop species and/or a wider range of threatened species and habitats in the risk assessment area For each pest associated with the non-native tree species, we summarise the host range (at species and genus level). Non-native tree species that support broad host range pest species may be considered at greater risk of introducing novel pests and diseases or amplifying endemic pest and disease impacts on other (e.g. native or economically important) plant species.
