资源简介:

War memorial in the form of a grieving soldier in Retz. The war memorial 1809 is an initiative of the veterans' association. After the lost battle of Wagram, the Austrian army withdrew to the north. Battles at Hollabrunn, Schöngrabern, Grund, Guntersdorf and Jetzelsdorf as well as the Battle of Znojmo claimed a large number of wounded on both sides. In order to care for these wounded, the Austrian military authorities ordered the establishment of the Feld-Haupt-Spital number 31 in Retz on 14 June 1809. In Retz alone, 1736 soldiers of the Austrian army died. There is no information about the number of French soldiers who died here, nor about the number of those who died, who were brought from abroad and buried here in a mass grave.
