Acidithiobacillus ferrivorans CF27 is a psychrotolerant iron- and sulfur-oxidizing acidophile isolated from mine water draining an abandoned cobalt/copper mine in Cobalt, ID, USA. It was noted for its propensity to form biofilm encapsulating pyrite particles when grown in liquid media. This organism will be used for comparative analysis with other acidithiobacilli spp.
