The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a feed roller for moving elongate wood and to a feed roller. The feed roller has a frame to which gripping members are attached to grip the movable wood. The body of the feed roller is a substantially disc-shaped body flange (1)， on the outer circumference of which are placed blade pieces (4) acting as gripping members， which are locked immovably in the radial direction of the body flange (1)， for example by mating surfaces (4e， 4f， 4j， 4k).
