This series contains the admissions, deaths and discharges register from Lottie Stewart Hospital.The Public Health Act 1893 (No. 39a section 1) required that every death be entered into a register. A medical officer of health, under this Act, could inspect the register books of death within his district at any reasonable time. (1)From September 1958 to February 1962, each page contains the admission, discharge and death entries for the month. The left-hand side of the page has the date of admission and name of admittee, and the right-hand side has date of discharge, when documented. The bottom right-hand side of the page lists the deaths that occurred that month, including date and name.The format changed slightly from April 1959 to December 1960, with the discharge column becoming distinct from the admission column and now including name and date of the discharged patient.The format changed again for 1961, with each month spanning over three pages. The first page contains the admission details, the second page contains the discharge details, and the third page any deaths that occurred. Each page has the day of month each occurrence happened, the name of the patient and the name of the doctor. At the end of each page is the total of admissions/discharges/deaths for that month.Also included in the register are Totals pages for the years 1960 and 1961, where the total number of male and female patients are counted for the year, as well as if they were B of H [Board of Health] patients.END NOTES(1) Public Health Act 1893 (Act No. 39a, 1893), s. 1.
