State-level implementation data of India's Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2007 – 2018

This resource includes an accompanying dataset, called PROCESSED implementation data, which provides state and union territory (UT) level implementation of India's Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA) between the years 2007 - 2018. This implementation data was collated and processed from various non-governmental and governmental reports. We provide all source documents (denoted by the 'RAW DATA' label preceding document name) which were used to abstract implementation metrics. The resulting dataset includes both raw metrics and metrics scaled per 1 million women aged 15 or older within each state/UT using population total derived from India’s 2011 Census, to account for different population sizes across states/UTs. The implementation information included in the dataset includes the following: Number of Protection Officers hired 1a. Number of total Protection Officers hired yearly (2007 – 2012), using information collected and reported by the Lawyer’s Collective 1b. Number of Protection Officers appointed in 2012, as reported in a governmental report (Lok Sabha report) 1c. Number of male Protection officers appointed in 2013, as reported by the Ministry of Women and Child Development 1d. Number of female Protection officers appointed in 2013, as reported by the Ministry of Women and Child Development Number of Service Provider organizations funded 2a. Number of Service Provider organizations funded each year (2007 – 2012), using information collected and reported by the Lawyer’s Collective Budget allocated and spent on Act 3a. Amount of state/UT budget allocated for activities related to the PWDVA (2008 – 2011), using information collected and reported by the Lawyer’s Collective 3b. Amount of state/UT budget spent on activities related to the PWDVA (2008 – 2011), using information collected and reported by the Lawyer’s Collective Protection Orders received 4a.
