Antimicrobial activity of chicken cathelicidins against a broad range of bacterial strains using spot-test.

All strains were human isolates unless otherwise noted.
*: a) vancomycin resistant, b) methicillin resistant, livestock associated ST398, c) CTX-M-1 ESBL positive from chicken, d) TEM-52 -ESBL positive from chicken, e) NDM-1 carbapenemase positive, f) KPC carbapenemase positive, g) cystic fibrosis patients. Bacteria were cultivated overnight at 37°C, a suspension of bacteria (5×105 CFU/ml) in distilled water was prepared and spread over Müller-Hinton agar plates. After the plates were dried, 20 µl of a CATH solution (32 µM) was spotted, plates were cultured at 37°C and examined for growth inhibition by measuring the diameter of the zones and noting the presence or absence of colonies within the spot area.
