This series contains miscellaneous papers documenting procedures, actions and studies pertaining to the Major Airport Needs of Sydney (MANS) Study. The study was concerned with establishing the optimal airport developments to serve the needs of the regular public transport movements in the Sydney region.Studies include: a) an archaeological survey consisting of photographs, report, maps, field note and sketches. b) environmental analysis study on birds c) airport planning involving consultative group drawings, airport factors, site factors, financial criteria, site selection terminal areas number of runways and aircraft types used in airport planning. d) aviation forecasts. e) environmental study including the outline of proposal consisting of drawings, graphs and charts. f) Specialist Opinion Statement including notes on proposed airport sites, names and position of members of the Environmental Study Group and specialists who were consulted and contributed to the study.Reports in this series consist of: a) Progress Report on Study Management. b) Incidence Analysis (presents the work programme proposed by the Planning Workshop Pty Ltd) c) Preliminary Study of Access by Public Transport and Its Implications for Airport Strategies and Site Selections (includes public transport, coach mode, heavy and light rail mode, public transport routes, maps of rail links to SSA d) Sites and diagrammatic map of Sydney Suburban Railway Systems. e) Evaluation of Air Pollution.) f) Effects on Defence Activities and Facilities On Locating An Airport In The Southern Zone. g) Proposed methodology for structuring evaluation and selection of a recommended development plan in MANS Study.Also included in the series are: written memoranda, telegrams, teleprinter messages, newspapers and journal articles.
