VPRS 7811 General, Registered and Unregistered Correspondence Files

This series comprises files originally created by the Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board (VA 2694) which had been removed from within their original filing locations by Board staff and placed in storage as 'inactive' files. It is presumed that this was done on various occasions as a means of creating filing space in times of shortage.The series contains a number of whole files or parts of files which were originally part of a number of different record keeping systems, including:VPRS 7809 Registered Correspondence Files and Dividers : Multiple Number System (1)VPRS 7810 General Files, and possibly an early sequence of Engineers Department files created prior to the establishment of VPRS 7995.The series also contains a number of unregistered files which appear to have been the working files of the Board Secretary, Chairman or Chief Engineer.
