Within the germline of C. elegans nematodes PIWI interacting RNAs (piRNAs) associate with the PIWI protein PRG-1 to modulate gene expression. While piRNA biogenesis and maturation is well characterized little is known about piRNA turnover. In this investigation we seek to uncover mechanisms that influence piRNA turnover and degradation.
