Differential gene expression analysis of corn in response to downy mildew disease caused by Peronosclerospora philippinensis

This research will advance the knowledge regarding the complex mechanism of host plant resistance of Philippine DM corn lines at the Genetics Laboratory, Institute of Plant Breeding, University of the Philippines Los Banos. This will be achieved using differential gene expression analysis through comparative transcriptomic studies (ie. RNA-seq). The identified DEGs generated from this research endeavor will provide a platform to design DNA marker tags and target the gene networks for downstream marker-assisted plant breeding applications as well as for targeting potential genes for gene-editing.
