Replication Data and Code for: Renewable Demand or Sanctions? A Descriptive Decomposition of Russia-China Mineral Trade Dynamics

This repository contains the replication data and code for the paper "Renewable Demand or Sanctions? A Descriptive Decomposition of Russia-China Mineral Trade Dynamics," published in Russian Journal of Economics (Manuscript #177572). The dataset covers bilateral trade flows of eight critical minerals (lithium, cobalt, nickel, graphite, copper, aluminum, platinum, rare earths) exported from Russia to China over the period 2000–2024, comprising 200 panel observations (8 minerals × 25 years). Key variables include Russia-China mineral export values, China's renewable energy installed capacity (solar and wind), international mineral price indices, and USD/RUB exchange rates. Data are sourced from UN Comtrade, Our World in Data, and the International Monetary Fund. The Stata do-file (replication_code.do) reproduces all main tables in the paper: descriptive statistics (Table 1), coefficient trajectories under progressive controls (Table 2), cross-mineral heterogeneity analysis (Table 3), temporal heterogeneity analysis (Table 4), robustness checks (Table 5), and time-trend sensitivity analysis (Table 6). The code requires Stata 16 or later with the reghdfe and ppmlhdfe packages installed.
